Map the journey of a piece of data

Choose a work report and follow its path from creation to the financial report. Note how many people transcribe it, which tools are involved and where errors are corrected. This journey reveals specific opportunities for improvement.

Assign a source for each type of information

Determine where projects, employees and material references are maintained. Other tools should use those references rather than create independent catalogues without controls. Also define who can change each record.

Simplify data capture on site

Ask only for the information needed for the next step. Consider connectivity, the device being used and the worker’s available time. A comprehensive office screen can be awkward on site. Test the form with the people who will use it.

Prepare for handling issues

Decide what happens if a transfer fails or the specified project does not exist. The team needs to know which records are pending and who should review them. A useful integration makes problems visible and allows corrections without losing traceability.
